THE URBAN PROTOTYPE PROJECT consists of a series of experimental temporary installations en plein air aimed at the improvement of the environmental quality of the city and of urban culture. These days developments in technology are mainly applied on the level of the individual, favouring intangible aspects. But their extension to the urban habitat has also the potential to expand their innovative aspects to the physical realm. During the next three years THE URBAN PROTOTYPE PROJECT intends to conduct several field experiments in urban open spaces and connective tissues in order to reach a condition of widespread quality. Therefore potential urban patterns are going to be identified for which devices and environmental micro infrastructures based on a low cost application of advanced technologies are going to be designed, developed and tested. With regard to the various stages of implementation collaboration with selected actors of the industrial sector is planned. |
Project guidelines: - regaining the dimension of the city as a fundamental educational environment able to provide an open as well as transversal education through the enrichment and renewal of its facilities - triggering varied positive social effects through the enrichment of sensory experiences in appropriate forms, twenty-four hours a day without interruption - activating and strengthening of biological, hydrological or luminous environmental systems of various scales and dimensions - supporting and increasing accessibility of integrated mobility systems in their various modalities - strengthening of the urban identity through iconic interventions able to improve the global image of a city - the city as a medium |
